D23 in twelve parsecs - Part 1 (Marvel-ous Parks)

All of us good Disney kids have spent the last few months saying our nightly well wish to Walt and Mickey for a weekend of many D23 announcements. It has been a painstaking wait, but the clock has struck, and we finally have our announcements…

The weekend was chock full of exciting announcements about movies we know (with Frozen 2 and Onward coming out, there’s a lot of hype), a new movie announcement (Raya and the Last Dragon will definitely make for some beautiful park additions!), tons of Disney+ information (including a docu-series that will feature various cast members!)  and a whole new roll out of Disney Legends (though as someone who watched from home, I am very upset Christina Aguilera’s performance was not streamed for those of us at home). But for those of us who plan on traveling via Disney in the next few years (who isn’t) here are some things to keep in mind.

Part one covers all the MCU announcements for the Disney parks.

Avengers Campus is coming to both Disneyland and Disneyland Paris and will have guests “become part of an interconnected, global story spanning from California to Paris to Hong Kong as the Avengers recruit new extraordinary people to join them.”

Avengers Campus will replace the area that originally housed A Bug’s Land in Disney California Adventure. The build will come in two phases. The first phase will feature Disney’s first ride through Spiderman attraction (coming in 2020 to Disneyland, then later in Disneyland Paris).

This new ride will be housed in the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (AKA WEB). During an open house at WEB, you will be given the opportunity to shoot webs just like Spiderman while you help to collect the Spider-Bots that have gone haywire (an interactive dark ride it seems!)

As Super Heroes assemble at both the California and Paris campuses, The Avengers Headquarters will be the focal point of California’s campus. Rumors are that you’ll even be able to see the Avengers working along the roof. It will also become the future entrance to an E-Ticket attraction when it opens in the second phase of development.

The attraction will put you on a Quinjet and have you fly alongside the Avengers to Wakanda and beyond. There will be a battle, you’ll see new villains, and you’ll be right in the center. Sounds pretty intense to me.

Avengers Campus will also feature Pym Test Kitchen where “Pym technologies is using the latest innovations to grow and shrink food.” Could be a Disney ploy to spend more money on not a lot of food or could be an absolutely unique experience. Regardless they will be taking my money.

For those of us who are in it for the character meet and greets, we will find “encounters” (this seems to be Disney’s new favorite word, perhaps it’ll be similar to the experience on Batuu?) with Black Widow, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Super Heroes from Wakanda and Asgard, and Iron Man.

Disneyland Paris will also feature Disney’s Hotel New York- The Art of Marvel, opening next summer. The hotel will have 80 years of Marvel art and artists with more than 300 curated works of art. Rooms will include one-of-a-kind themed suits featuring various Super Heroes. There will also be designated areas for character meets.

If you can’t wait for Avengers Campus, my Disneyland sources tell me that there is already merch for sale at Disneyland that features the logo (take a picture if you see any and be sure to tag us on facebook @wanderlustjourneysllc or #wanderlustjourneys!).

TO BE CONTINUED….
